Who makes the best passenger cars? - Model Train Forum
The final step is to replace the lighting boards. Older cars like the 84' lightweights have three incandescent bulbs with no capacitor. Not so good. Most of the recent cars have the same three bulbs but with a capacitor. The capacitor does not help very much because it is too small for the amperage draw of the bulbs.
Lionel aluminum passenger cars - Model Train Forum
Nice looking cars, Bill. Those 15-inch cars have always been favorites of mine, especially the postwar Silver Range / Bluff / Cloud / Dawn cars. Here's a bit of useless trivia: this 18-inch SP Daylight dome car made by Phoenix Railways is part Lionel; when they were built, they used the dome from the 15-inch cars like the ones you are showing.
2024 TCA Convention RBMN Box Cars – Help Me Decide
No, Standard O cars are not based on postwar semi-scale cars. They are considered scale-sized—some may be a little short to be truly scale—and have more detail than Traditional O cars, but much of it molded in, and not as detailed as the high-end, detailed O-Scale cars.

Saw a catalog sent to the dealers and the new vision line locomotive this year is the Triplex, msrp $2500 and a special freight set of 15 cars and in those cars will be several vision line cars. Forgot to look at the price for them but they won't be cheap. Someone told the total cost for both engine and cars is around $4500.00. Save your penny's

Milwaukee passenger cars from Phoenix Trains - Model Train Forum
Marty Fitzhenry introduced me to the brand on one of my visits to his home, and shortly after that, I found a set of the SP Daylight cars and bought it. I also recently acquired the Milwaukee cars, and they are beautiful. They have more of a toy/tinplate feel to them than the Lionel or K Line 18-inch cars, especially with that high-gloss paint job.
How many cars... - Model Train Forum
Did some checking and found an Athearn car (2659) with metal axles (plastic wheels) rolls very well compared to the plastic axle cars. Drastic difference. Did kill* the "polar express" locomotive that came with the village express pulling 10 cars...lol that was fun. It did pull them for a bit while pulling about .5amp.
Smooth Operating Passenger Rolling Stock | Model Train Forum
It isn't hard to notice that brand new passenger cars are among the most expensive rolling stock one can buy in HO scale. I am, of course, a little hesitant to spend $120 per item before knowing that it will roll well on our tracks. Our track radius is now no less than 22 inches. However, it looks like most passenger cars like 24 inches or greater.
Hi friends Just bought the K-Line Reading Crusader set.
Love the Crusader, it's an iconic set for someone that lives anywhere between Phila and NYC. I've owned the K-Line set, the MTH RailKing set, and now I have the Weaver scale set. Mine is getting 3D printed interiors for the passenger cars that I'm trying to somewhat emulate the interiors of the real train, that's a work in progress.
changing trucks - Model Train Forum
Since coach sets usually stay together, you can just change the T-shank Rapidos with Unimate fixed knuckles. Plastics in these old cars can be brittle, be careful changing couplers. I would change the lead car front to a MTL truck. Here is what I did to my old coaches. There are two sets of coaches, one Con Cor Rowa, the other Minitrix.
