This extreme High-End market, whose noble and honorable purpose at its beginnings was to offer music lovers the best possible reproduction quality, has turned into a mass market, comparable to the souks of Marrakech - which I personally love, but for a different purpose - where the highest discount has become the main focus.

For more commonly available brands, they have Audio Note, Harbeth, ProAc, Synthesis and Sonus Faber. Another interesting store is Command Audio in Falls Church Va. They carry more conventional high end brands and have quite a lot of lines, such as Magico, Raidho, Neat, Constellation, Audia, Aurender, and ClearAudio.

I've A/B'd conditioner vs. no conditioner many times over the years, with wide variety of equipment, all higher end, difference can be detected within minutes. I\'d suggest if you took a poll, vast majority here using power conditioners, don't know the percentage using trans. based.

Just curious to hear everyone’s opinions on using an equalizer in a high end hi fi system. Was at work tonight and killing time and came across a Schitt Loki max $1500 Equalizer with some very good reviews.

Profit margins include expenses for rent, inventory, sales staff, shipping, power and heat, and of course the owners own time. Profit margins in audio are in the low single digits. If a dealer clears 5% that was a good year. Well moving $1M of high end audio that’s $50k profit, on top of the salary the guy paid himself as part of his expenses.

Who wants to live with something-within our control- that is esthetically unpleasing? The Wilsons look like ugly refrigerators to some, but to many they appear to be technical marvels. This has been the calling card for the most prominent speaker brands since the 70's when Playboy's adoption of high-end audio as a worldly man's pursuit emerged.

I fed it from an Aurender N100 through the USB input. It seemed sleepy, not exciting, not compelling, especially compared to other high end DACs I've been listening to lately (all of them more expensive than the R26). Then I got a PS Audio DirectStream DAC Mk. 1 at a good price, and it had a more interesting and refined sound than the R26.

Himalayan salt lamps like Tourmaline are pyroelectric, no it doesn't mean it's for pyromaniacs, it means they produce negative ions when heated, the salt lamp to a much less extent (I.e., so low it can’t be measured) than tourmaline; tourmaline is used in a number of audiophile products, including my Particle Accelerator ion gun.
